Wybe ontwierp dit gebouw in 1929. Het bevindt zich naast of vlakbij de St. Peter kathedraal in Rockford, Illinois. De eerste Chancery Office, waar bisschop Edward F. Hoban woonde, was gevestigd op 1704 National Avenue. Nadat Wybe’s ontwerp voltooid was, betrok de bisschop het nieuwe gebouw. Wybe verhuisde toen uit zijn eigen huis op High Crest Road (dat hij zelf had ontworpen) naar 1704 National Avenue. Ze woonden daar tot 1934, het jaar van hun faillissement, waarna ze vertrokken naar Aurora.

In 2019 stond het pand op de nominatie om gesloopt te worden. Het bisdom wil op deze plek een nieuw gebouw neerzetten. De sloopwerkzaamheden aan de binnenkant waren al begonnen, maar niet iedereen was het daarmee eens. Er werd gewerkt aan het opnemen van het gebouw op de monumentenlijst en zolang dat proces liep, lag de sloop stil. Zie de bijgevoegde PDF voor het formulier om het gebouw op de lijst te krijgen.

De foto’s hieronder tonen de huidige staat van het pand, terwijl de zwart-witfoto’s kort na de bouw zijn gemaakt. De eerste vier foto’s geven de staat van het pand weer in 2018. Ondanks pogingen van lokale historici kon sloop uiteindelijk niet worden voorkomen.

In 2019, the building was nominated for demolition. The diocese planned to build a new structure on the site. Interior demolition had already begun, but not everyone agreed with this. Efforts were underway to place the building on the historic register, and demolition was put on hold while this process was ongoing. The photos below show the current condition of the building, while the black-and-white photos were taken shortly after its construction. The first four photos depict the building’s condition in 2018. Despite efforts by local historians, demolition could not be prevented.
